In the red-lit underground space, Saint realizes the horror she has entered when she studies the photographs hanging from chicken wire overhead. Hundreds of girls have been photographed, and some prints bear rough circles over their heads like halos. Saint also finds a separate group of photos of Misty Meyer without those marks, including newspaper images, which suggests Eli Aaron has been tracking specific girls and categorizing them.

A noise sends Saint moving deeper into the room until she reaches a wall of surveillance monitors. The screens show cameras placed around the house and woods, as well as a tidy bedroom and a bunker where a figure lies on a mattress. This confirms that Eli has built a hidden, controlled compound for watching, containing, and concealing his victims.

When the generator dies, Saint is left in darkness and panic. She tries to steady herself, slips into another chemical-smelling room, and lights a match to see. Before Saint can get her bearings, Eli fires a shot that hits the wall above her, then laughs, making it clear that he is not merely chasing her away but deliberately hunting and terrifying her.

Saint flees through the dark, crashes into shelves, drops her matches, and finds a tunnel leading back toward the main house. She reaches the living room and sees the open front door, recognizing that escape and help are possible if she runs. Instead, thinking of Patch and what Patch would do for her, Saint chooses to open another door and continue searching belowground.

Descending a second staircase, Saint discovers yet another hidden chamber. A flicker of light reveals tanks full of snakes, including copperheads and rattlesnakes, showing how dangerous and carefully designed Eli's underground world is. When the light fails and Eli follows her down the stairs, Saint calls for Patch, hears another gunshot, drops to her knees, and crawls deeper into the darkness, overwhelmed and praying for it to end.
