On Saturday, Saint goes to her piano lesson with Mrs. Shaw and struggles through "Claire de Lune." When Saint sees Nix across the street holding a coffee beneath the cherry tree, his sad smile pulls up the weight of the past year, but Saint returns to the piano and finishes the piece. Mrs. Shaw tells Saint not to rush and reminds her that restraint matters too, underscoring Saint's effort to regain control of herself.

On Monday, when Patch does not appear in class, Saint leaves to look for him. She finds Patch sitting alone outside the principal's office, bruised and diminished, and asks whether his black eye is connected to what happened with Chuck that morning. As they speak, Principal Rodriguez brings Chuck Bradley and Chuck's father, Luke Bradley, out of the office.

Luke Bradley says Chuck brought a football trophy to school and that Joseph Macauley stole it. When Saint asks Patch why he would do that, Patch answers with a crude insult aimed at Luke Bradley, showing that his anger and recklessness are still driving him. Principal Rodriguez has to block Chuck and Luke from going after Patch, then takes Patch back into the office while sending Saint to class.

Saint waits for Patch and rejoins him after he is suspended. She walks home with him in silence, follows him inside long enough to notice Ivy asleep on the couch, then goes back outside as Patch starts the Fairlane. When Patch warns Saint that she will get into trouble, Saint answers that they will get into trouble together and gets into the passenger seat, choosing his company despite the consequences.
