Chapter 51
Overview
Bonnie Gregor receives what seems like a dream breakthrough: a Vivid Viral-linked booking worth £20,000 to film a promotional video in São Paulo. The offer convinces Bonnie that Bonnie's influencer ambitions are finally becoming real, prompting immediate plans to leave Bonnie's current life behind. Because the opportunity comes through the same machinery already tied to the wider conspiracy, Bonnie's acceptance broadens the danger beyond Amy and shows how the operation keeps recruiting new unsuspecting participants.
Summary
At school, Bonnie Gregor reflects on the rule against phones on the premises and on her own anxiety about checking hers at work. As a teaching assistant, Bonnie feels less free than the teachers to ignore the rules, but Bonnie is waiting for important news and slips into a cubicle in the girls’ toilet to look at Bonnie's messages.
There, Bonnie finds the answer Bonnie has been hoping for: an email from a "Bookings Committee" rather than directly from Felicity. The message asks whether Bonnie can fly to São Paulo on Thursday to film a three-minute promotional video for an organic paint brand, for a non-negotiable fee of £20,000. Bonnie repeatedly rereads the figure because the sum feels impossible and life-changing.
Overwhelmed, Bonnie quietly cries with relief and excitement. Bonnie thinks about the friends who encouraged Bonnie to pursue this ambition and about how close Bonnie came to losing confidence and turning back when Bonnie went to see Felicity Woollaston. Bonnie frames the moment as proof that Bonnie pushed through impostor syndrome and that the risk of believing in Bonnie's own potential has finally paid off.
Once Bonnie accepts the offer as real, Bonnie immediately begins imagining the practical and personal consequences. Bonnie assumes Bonnie's mother will help with the children, expects the school will understand when Bonnie resigns, and starts fantasizing about the Brazil trip, Bonnie's appearance, and the script Bonnie might deliver for the campaign. The unknown details of the product do not dampen Bonnie's excitement; instead, Bonnie treats them as small preparations for a glamorous new life.
After briefly being interrupted by a child needing the toilet, Bonnie texts Bonnie's mother to say thank you for believing in Bonnie. Bonnie then sends a polite reply confirming Bonnie's availability, asking about flights, accommodation, and the paint's name. The chapter ends with Bonnie convinced that Vivid Viral Media Agency is about to transform Bonnie's future.
