Chapter 68
Overview
François Loubet decides Rob Kenna has failed once too often and moves to force the situation by tipping off the police about Amy Wheeler’s blood at the murder scenes. Amy now faces a brutal deadline: if Rob does not kill her within forty-eight hours, the police may arrest her instead. At the same time, François reveals that his operation is still active, with a new London-to-São Paulo shipment booked directly through Vivid Viral.
Summary
François Loubet reflects on Rob Kenna’s latest failure and takes particular amusement from the fact that Rosie D’Antonio outwitted Rob’s hitman. Although François enjoys the absurdity of the situation, Rob’s inability to finish the job convinces François that Rob can no longer be trusted to handle Amy Wheeler.
Because François has lost confidence in Rob, François decides to escalate the pressure by involving the police himself. François plans to make sure the police learn that Amy’s blood was found at all three crime scenes, a move designed to leave Amy with almost no room to escape. François concludes that Amy must die within forty-eight hours or she will instead be arrested.
Alongside this threat, François notes that his wider criminal business is still advancing. François has arranged a shipment from London to São Paulo in two days’ time, and this time the booking has gone directly through Vivid Viral rather than through Joe Blow. The chapter therefore sharpens the immediate danger to Amy while showing that François’s laundering operation is continuing and adapting.
