Chapter 9
Overview
Amy realizes Andrew Fairbanks was an MIS client, confirming that the growing chain of deaths around Maximum Impact Solutions is real and that she may be implicated or endangered. Jeff Nolan's ominous response makes Amy fear suspicion from her own side, so she breaks protocol and chooses to confide in Rosie. The chapter turns Amy from a watchful protector into someone forced to seek help and explain the conspiracy closing around her.
Summary
While staying with Rosie D'Antonio, Amy Wheeler hears news that influencer Andrew Fairbanks has died, supposedly after falling overboard. Amy immediately recognizes the name, checks the report herself, and confirms that Andrew Fairbanks was a client of Maximum Impact Solutions. Because Bella Sanchez and Mark Gooch were also connected to MIS, Amy realizes the pattern is no longer a coincidence and that she is somehow caught in the middle of something serious.
Amy messages Jeff Nolan at once to tell him that Andrew Fairbanks is dead nearby and to ask for guidance. While waiting, Amy reflects on how Jeff recruited her ten years earlier, after seeing her break up a violent fight at the gym where she worked. Jeff later tested both Amy's practical skills and her emotional detachment, decided she was suited to protection work, and brought her into MIS.
Jeff replies only that they need to talk, which deepens Amy's anxiety instead of calming it. Amy assumes Jeff now knows what she knows: that multiple MIS clients are dead, and that Amy's proximity to the latest death will make her look suspicious. She sends a second message insisting that Jeff has to trust her, but she still fears that MIS may already be turning against her.
Feeling isolated and uncertain whom she can trust, Amy looks for someone to confide in. When Rosie returns complaining about the broken sauna, Amy admits that she might be in trouble and does not know how to get out of it. Rosie responds with characteristic humor and offers help, creating an opening Amy badly needs.
By the end of the chapter, Amy makes a crucial choice: she asks for a drink, suggests she may no longer be on duty, and decides to tell Rosie the full story. That decision marks a shift from silent professionalism to open alliance, as Amy prepares to share everything she has pieced together about the murders and MIS.
