At Tony Taylor’s garage, Tony diagnoses Steve Wheeler’s car problem as a broken clutch cable and starts replacing it. While they talk, Steve considers driving to Letchworth Garden City to visit Vivid Viral Media, but Tony points out that the trip would take too long and likely trap Steve in traffic. Steve begins to accept that following up in person may not be worth it.

Their conversation is interrupted when Jeff Nolan arrives unexpectedly at the open garage and asks for Steve by name. Steve is immediately alarmed because Jeff is Amy’s boss and Steve fears something may have happened to Amy. Jeff quickly reassures Steve that Amy is fine and explains that he came from London specifically to see Steve because Steve is someone Amy trusts.

As Jeff talks, he reveals how tense the situation has become around him. He says he took an indirect route because he was worried a hitman might be following him, which signals that the danger Amy has been facing may now be closing in on Jeff as well. Jeff does not explain everything in front of Tony, saying only that he needs a favor and that he is running out of people he can trust.

Jeff arranges a private meeting with Steve one hour later at Hollands Wood campsite, at pitch 46, where they can talk out of sight. Steve agrees, partly because Amy trusts Jeff and partly because Jeff’s urgency feels genuine. When Steve asks whether this involves murders, Jeff avoids answering, increasing the sense that Steve is being drawn deeper into the case.
