Chapter 30
Overview
After Kevin and a corrupt local cop fail to kill Amy Wheeler, Rob Kenna urgently hires a new assassin to protect himself from Franois Loubet's wrath. He recruits Eddie Flood, an old East London contact, and sends him to America with strict orders to kill Amy but not Rosie D'Antonio. Eddie's brief reaction to Rosie's name hints at a deeper connection that may matter later.
Summary
Rob Kenna, a murder-broker, responds to Franois Loubet's pressure by deciding not to panic after recent failures. Kevin, the ex-Navy SEAL, has mishandled the job, and a local cop killed the sheriff but failed to stop Amy Wheeler. Because those attempts have left Amy alive and Rob vulnerable, Rob looks for a new killer he believes he can trust.
Using an encrypted video app, Rob contacts Eddie Flood in East London, an old associate from his past. After brief small talk, Rob moves directly to business and offers Eddie thirty thousand pounds, half up front and half on completion, to kill someone in America. Eddie hesitates because of the location and the target, but Rob presses him by appealing to Eddie's need for money and by calling him the best person for the job.
Rob then shows Eddie a recent photo of two women and identifies the younger woman, Amy Wheeler, as the target. When Eddie asks whether he may need to kill the older woman, Rob refuses and explains that Rosie D'Antonio is famous and would bring unwanted attention. At Rosie's name, Eddie shows a brief, telling reaction, but quickly recovers and agrees to proceed.
Rob orders Eddie to leave immediately from London City Airport and to use Rob's private plane so the hit can happen fast. Rob takes comfort in hiring someone he sees as professional, quiet, and reliable, unlike Kevin. By the end of the chapter, Rob believes Eddie will solve his Amy problem before Franois Loubet turns his anger on Rob.
