Rosie drives Amy and Steve to Bluff Point to meet Nelson Nunez, using Rosie’s name to secure an invitation to his home. On the way, Steve and Amy talk through the case again and conclude that Amy’s stolen blood was likely used to place her physically at multiple crime scenes. Steve points out that even if Amy has no motive, strong forensic evidence could still frame her, so they need proof that someone else set her up.

As Rosie turns onto the rough private road, the group sees just how heavily protected Nelson’s property is. Security signs warn of dogs and shootings, and after Rosie uses the intercom, armed backup follows their car down the drive in a Land Rover with a mounted machine gun. Amy expects to be searched, so she gives Rosie her gun to hide before they reach the house.

When they arrive, Nelson Nunez comes out carrying drinks and at first seems to be playing the genial host. His demeanor changes, however, when he realizes Rosie has brought not one guest but two. After Rosie introduces Amy and Steve, Nelson says that their number creates a problem.

Nelson then tells the group to come inside and says they can sort things out, but the moment is clearly threatening rather than welcoming. Rosie notices Nelson exchange a subtle nod with the armed young man from the Land Rover, confirming that Nelson is reacting strategically to their arrival. The chapter ends with Rosie entering the house alert and relieved that she managed to keep a gun hidden, as the meeting appears to be turning into a trap.
