In Dubai, Rob Kenna reacts angrily to news that Amy Wheeler is alive in St Lucia while Eddie Flood has flown to Hawaii. Rob assumes Amy is following the trail of the murders, but he believes she will not uncover much in St Lucia or Ireland because the people on the ground only know fragments. Rob decides the real priority is to have Amy killed before she can keep digging.

Rob reflects on how criminal work depends on insulation: layers of intermediaries protect the people at the top. He notes that François Loubet has hired him four times, yet Rob has still never met him in person. Even so, Rob knows failing Loubet would be dangerous, so he moves quickly to support the operation.

Because Eddie is returning from Hawaii, Rob arranges for a gun to be waiting in St Lucia. Drawing on his Dubai underworld contacts, Rob messages Nelson Nunez and asks for a weapon under the same terms as before. While he plays golf with his neighbor Big Mick, Nelson confirms that he can provide exactly what Rob needs.

Rob then realizes Nelson may be useful for more than supplying a gun. Since Rosie D'Antonio's arrival on the island is likely to be noticed, Rob tells Nelson that the person traveling with Rosie is the target and asks to be informed if Rosie is seen. When Nelson offers to carry out the killing himself for a fee, Rob approves the idea, sets a price of two hundred, and orders that Rosie must not be harmed because her death would bring too much publicity. By the end of the chapter, Rob feels reassured that between Eddie Flood and Nelson Nunez, Amy Wheeler is now under immediate threat.
