When Eve gets home from school, she is surprised to find Nate already there. Nate is unusually warm and attentive: he offers to order dinner, compliments Eve, and kisses her with an intensity she has not felt from him in a long time. The encounter quickly turns passionate, and afterward Eve feels hopeful that their marriage might still be repairable.

While they lie together in bed, Nate brings up a note saying Eve urgently needed to see Addie Severson. Eve explains that Addie cheated on the math midterm by copying another student’s answers and says she plans to report the incident to Principal Higgins, following school policy.

Nate pushes back against that plan. Nate argues that Addie panicked rather than carrying out a deliberate cheating scheme, points out that Eve has no direct confession, and reminds Eve that Addie has struggled and been through a lot. Nate urges Eve not to ruin Addie’s life, especially over a case connected to Eve’s lingering anger about what happened with Arthur Tuttle.

Eve, softened by the sudden closeness with Nate and influenced by his sympathy for Addie, changes her mind. Eve agrees not to go to the principal and decides instead to give Addie a zero and a warning after class. Nate tells Eve she is doing the right thing, then gets up and goes to shower.

After Nate leaves for the bathroom, Eve receives a Snapflash message from Jay asking if he will see her the next night. Although Eve has just experienced the kind of passion she wanted from Nate and briefly imagined a future with her husband, she remains unsettled by how quickly Nate shifted to talking about Addie. Thinking of Jay’s devotion and desire, Eve decides to continue the affair and replies that she will be there.
