Millie has dinner outdoors with Brock at a Middle Eastern restaurant in the East Village, but she can’t concentrate on his conversation. Since Xavier attacked her and was released, Millie keeps feeling as if someone is watching her and regrets choosing an outdoor table.

Brock notices Millie’s distraction and asks if she is okay. Millie insists she is, privately reflecting that Brock is unusually trusting and never presses her for details about her past, even though she is exhausted from keeping secrets.

Millie thinks back to how she met Brock through a community college shadowing opportunity at his law office and how their relationship started after he asked her to dinner. She also remembers Brock’s anger when Xavier wasn’t charged and Brock’s repeated advice that Millie needs to find a new place to live.

Overwhelmed by fear of returning to her South Bronx apartment while Xavier remains nearby, Millie abruptly proposes that she and Brock move in together. Brock happily agrees and tells Millie he loves her, reaching for her hand.

As Millie struggles to respond, her sense of being watched spikes. She turns to search for Xavier but instead spots someone unexpected: Douglas Garrick.
