Millie, still wet from the rain, goes to her apartment door when someone keeps pounding. Through the peephole she sees Brock Cunningham in a business suit, demanding to be let in, and she reluctantly unlocks the door.

Brock, her boyfriend of six months, is furious and worried: they had dinner plans in Chelsea, but Millie never showed and ignored his calls and messages. Millie admits she stood him up and, when a siren blares outside, realizes why Brock assumed something might have happened.

Millie explains that Amber Degraw fired her, leaving her panicked about money. She tells Brock the reason: Amber’s daughter Olive kept calling Millie “mama,” and Amber “freaked out.” Brock laughs at the absurdity, and Millie ends up laughing too, easing the tension as Brock pulls her close.

Millie reflects on how stable their relationship feels and notes Brock’s one major vulnerability: a lifelong heart condition he manages with daily medication, including a spare bottle kept in her medicine cabinet. Brock’s health concerns also make him more eager to settle down.

Trying to help, Brock offers to take Millie out to dinner, but Millie wants to stay in and start job-hunting because she needs rent money. Brock uses that opening to suggest she move into his two-bedroom Central Park apartment so she won’t have to worry about rent, but Millie refuses, insisting she needs her own space because Brock doesn’t know her real past. Brock backs off and asks her to at least think about it, and Millie lies that she will.
