Carl loots Quan’s enormous inventory, taking a pile of magical weapons, gold, scrolls, tomes, and Quan’s celestial cloak. Carl leaves behind only the golden ring clenched in Quan’s hand, but inexplicably keeps Quan’s severed arm. Ren warns Carl to get clear because Ren’s magical bracer will detonate the building.

Carl exits into the burning streets with Samantha and resists using the Ring of Divine Suffering to mark Ren or Khulan, deciding the delay and risk aren’t worth it. Ren sends a final message asking Carl and Princess Donut to make their captors pay, then the building collapses in a controlled blast, killing Ren (Tserendolgor). Donut panics when Ren’s name appears among the deceased, and Carl promises to explain later while focusing on reaching Imani near the church without teleport supplies.

Carl repeatedly throws/teleports Samantha to Donut, and Samantha bites Donut’s tail to hold on, making Donut nauseated and furious. Donut has gained a new golden player-killer skull, and Carl notes how casually they accept it. As they move through Havana, zombie crabs, seals, and other undead swarm the city; possessed demons sometimes peel off toward Amayon, the demon-possessed Madre de Aguas snake, which stands atop a building pouring fire upward and heating the air.

Imani reports the church entrance is clogged with zombies because NPCs keep opening the door, and Carl tells Imani to retreat to the saferoom if Sister Ines appears. Carl and Mordecai discuss loot and the “tummy acher” pet: Mordecai advises keeping it boxed in Carl’s inventory for now, warning Ren revealed its weaknesses aloud and factions may be spying. Carl also considers using rare Eye in the Sky scrolls to locate Sister Ines but chooses to conserve them, while reaffirming Carl’s plan to give Imani the key even if she refuses.

After a zombie fish spots them and draws nearby undead, Carl pushes onward, using Samantha to lure zombies away and clear their route. Then Sister Ines contacts Carl directly, claiming the exit door lies in the Iglesia de Jesús de Miramar and insisting Carl must not open it or “it will be the end of everything.” Sister Ines says demon appearances make Sister Ines stronger, offers to “save” Carl while dismissing Donut as a beast, and orders them to the FOSCA building; at the same time, Imani sees three level-140 pleasure demons enter the church as Sister Ines’s minions, and Amayon stops and forcibly calls for Carl, confirming Sister Ines can command powerful demons. Sister Ines threatens to destroy the church if Carl doesn’t comply, forcing Carl and Donut to reassess their approach immediately.
