Chapter 15

Overview

A Celestial Thorn Room forces Carl’s team to choose which single orisha shrine to repair, while multiple gods try to charm them into picking for selfish rewards. Carl follows Katia’s urgent instruction and repairs Yemaya’s shrine, curing the ghommids and liberating the settlement, but it triggers major consequences: Carl is infected with SlugPox, and Paz and Anton are marked for an imminent smite. With the Temple of Yemaya now functioning as a Club Vanquisher entrance, Ogun’s arrival signals immediate fallout from defying his shrine.

Summary

Asojano accuses Anton of betrayal as combat begins, but a new orisha, Oshun, appears and charms Carl and Anton with overwhelming charisma, promising protection and rewards if her shrine is repaired. Donut recognizes the charm and shocks Carl out of it; Carl receives a private warning from Katia: do not repair the planned shrine, and instead repair the blue shrine of Yemaya because resurrecting Yemaya is the first step to saving Katia and Donut.

Time freezes as the dungeon announces a rare Celestial Thorn Room: seven broken shrines and only one can be repaired using the Sun of Reawakening. The AI explains the stakes and rewards for each choice, including smites for the two Ogun worshippers if Ogun’s shrine is not repaired, and a boss fight if Asojano’s shrine is ignored. Carl chooses to trust Katia and aims for Yemaya’s shrine despite the likely smite consequences.

When time resumes, Anton—still influenced—tries to reach Oshun and throws the key Ogun shrine piece out into the night, making that repair effectively impossible as ghommids crowd the entrance. Carl and Donut execute a planned tactic: Donut strips Bomo’s scrap armor with Laundry Day, then uses Legionnaires of the Damned to possess the scattered metal pieces into a whirling swarm that tears into Asojano. Carl blocks the doorway with a holy chock to keep the ghommids from flooding in while the fight continues.

Paz and Anton start repairing Legba’s shrine instead of Yemaya’s, but Asojano launches green goo that hits them, knocks down the shrine work, and leaves them with a severe debuff. The attack also collapses most of Donut’s summoned metal swarm and destroys the clockwork Mongo copies, though Asojano continues weakening while isolated from the ghommids.

Bomo quickly assembles Yemaya’s blue obelisk. Carl finishes Asojano by planting a flag and turning him into a card, but is immediately infected with SlugPox, forming boils that burst into toothy pox slugs. Donut directs a few remaining animated daggers to carry the Sun of Reawakening to Yemaya’s shrine, freezing the room again; all other shrines vanish, the settlement is liberated, ghommids are cured, and the temple transforms into the Temple of Yemaya with Club Vanquisher access. Paz and Anton writhe under a flaming-anvil shunned marker as Sister Ines cannot cure the draining effect, Carl’s pox slugs begin popping out, and the chapter ends with the warning: Ogun has made an appearance in the realm.
