1. Prologue
Overview
With the tenth floor collapsing, Odette’s party needs a storm god to activate the final puzzle and reach the eleventh floor, but the sponsored deity Dodola is controlled by the extortionate sponsor Huanxin Jinx. Odette refuses the sponsor’s escalating demands and instead forces a solution by having Chaco sacrifice Uzzi with the Dart of Ophiotaurus, summoning Dodola into a containment circle where Dodola is killed by her own lightning. The stairwell opens, but Mordecai is devastated by Uzzi’s death and swears vengeance on Odette.
Summary
As a countdown warns that a level collapse is imminent, Odette and her crawler party prepare to open the stairwell to the eleventh floor by completing a storm-based puzzle ritual. Two storm deities rise from the mist: the intended summon, Dodola, and a larger god, Adad. Odette identifies that Adad is AI-controlled, but Dodola is sponsor-driven by the grixist heiress Huanxin Jinx.
Odette communicates with Mordecai, who is delayed and struggling to reach the group through caustic rain, while Armita relays escalating extortion demands from Huanxin for guiding Dodola to trigger the puzzle. The party has the nine pieces primed, but the final activation requires direct storm-god contact or god-tier storm magic within the stairwell circle. With time running out, Odette decides they cannot rely on Huanxin, even though Mordecai proposes sacrificing himself using his Final Blow skill to redirect a god’s spell onto the puzzle.
When Dodola teleports Adad away and marches toward the crawlers, Armita warns that Huanxin now threatens to “zero out” the party unless Odette agrees to pay half of her bonus. Refusing to be bullied further, Odette rejects the deal and pivots to a brutal alternative: she orders Chaco to worship Dodola and use the Dart of Ophiotaurus on Uzzi, then trap the result with a Circle of Containment so the summoned god is forced into the stairwell circle.
Chaco, sickened but pressured by Odette’s insistence that it is the only viable option, throws the dart into Uzzi. Uzzi accepts the sacrifice, and Dodola is involuntarily summoned into the containment with the puzzle and key-mote forming—still trapped inside the circle. Dodola’s lightning spell ricochets within the containment, and after a brief window before full divine immunity, the spell’s area detonation kills Dodola; Chaco receives credit for slaying a deity and gains a major level boost.
The containment drops and the key moves to the stairwell, opening the way down. Mordecai realizes Odette engineered Uzzi’s death, attacks Chaco, and the two tumble into the stairwell, followed by Hold Steady. Left alone as the level collapses, Odette believes she has finally secured her freedom, but Mordecai messages a vow to hunt her down and kill her.
