After reading them, Ibrahim immediately judges them clumsy and fake, and Paul explains that Joanna tested the sender by asking for the name of Nick’s car.

The group agrees the messages came from Nick’s phone but not from Nick himself. Joanna bluntly says that if Nick were alive, whoever had him could simply have asked him the answer, so the failed exchange strongly suggests Nick has been killed. Ron says Kendrick will stay at Coopers Chase until Sunday, which Ibrahim quietly notes because Ron says Kendrick will return only to his mother. After the meeting, Ibrahim reviews the known facts: Holly is dead, Nick is probably dead or being impersonated, a vast Bitcoin fortune is hidden nearby behind two six-digit codes, and he is left facing both the puzzle and his own loneliness.
