Ron knows Elizabeth has already acted on her own initiative, because she secretly took Holly’s ruined phone from the scene before the police could find it.

DCI Varma and her subordinate question the four friends about why Holly was with them and what they discussed over dinner. Elizabeth controls the conversation, giving only minimal answers and insisting Holly’s visit was purely social.
