Joanna spends hours on a Zoom call trying to buy a Brazilian telecoms company while Paul sits nearby marking essays. As the negotiations drag on, Joanna keeps half her attention on Paul and wonders why she still has not told him about the solicitor's call. Joanna realizes that she is afraid of what she might see in Paul's face if she tests him with the truth.

During the call, Joanna also keeps the CCTV from the Compound open on her screen, a habit she has developed during long meetings. What began as a search for clues about Holly Lewis's death has changed into something darker: Joanna now fears that she might eventually see Paul's face in the footage. Even so, Joanna keeps scanning the largely empty recordings, hoping some overlooked movement will explain what happened.

Paul briefly distracts Joanna by showing her an excellent essay written by a student who never even attended the lecture. His complaint about someone succeeding without showing up triggers Joanna's thoughts about Holly. Joanna recalls Holly's excuse for missing the wedding and feels again how strange it was that Holly did not appear, especially since both Joanna and Nick Silver were there.

That thought gives Joanna a new line of inquiry. Instead of searching randomly through the Compound footage, Joanna decides it may be worth checking the CCTV from the day of her wedding. Because Holly claimed she was working that day, Joanna begins to suspect Holly might have been working at the Compound instead, making the wedding-day footage a potentially important clue.
