Elizabeth, Joyce, Donna and Bogdan enter Nick Silver's office at 8b Templar Street after Donna reluctantly agrees to help and Bogdan forces the tougher-than-expected door. Inside, they find the office wrecked: a desk overturned, filing cabinets forced open, papers everywhere and glass from a broken skylight. Because Nick was meant to meet Elizabeth there, the destruction makes Elizabeth consider two main possibilities: an ordinary burglary connected to a mysterious code, or an attack on Nick by whoever previously planted a bomb under his car.

Elizabeth has the group look for signs of a struggle while Donna presses for explanations about Nick, the bomb and the code. Elizabeth shares little, but Joyce confirms that Nick is Paul's former best man. Elizabeth reasons that if Nick has gone into hiding he may contact Paul, but if he does not, his disappearance may be far more serious.

Elizabeth decides that Joyce should ask Paul to arrange a dinner with Holly Lewis and to alert them if Nick gets in touch. Donna and Bogdan both argue that the situation clearly belongs with the police, but Elizabeth refuses to involve ordinary police beyond Chris because she wants time to think. Before leaving, Elizabeth quietly notices a file hidden neatly behind a radiator with her name on it and slips it into her bag without drawing attention.

On the way out, Elizabeth checks for physical traces that Nick was dragged away but sees nothing obvious. Once outside Donna's sight, Elizabeth shows Joyce the contents of the file: a Post-it note asking Elizabeth for help because Nick believes she will work out how. The note convinces Elizabeth only that Nick was alive when he wrote it, not that he is safe now.

As they leave Templar Street, Elizabeth is struck by the unexpected return of her appetite, and Joyce gives her a flapjack. Joyce then asks who might have planted the bomb, and Elizabeth names their current suspects: Davey Noakes, Lord Townes and Holly Lewis. Elizabeth has Joyce call Ron for a pickup from Hampton Road because the next step is to examine Nick's car from underneath.
