Jason Ritchie has been trying to find Danny Lloyd, but learns only that Danny has gone abroad for now. Because Danny remains dangerous, Jason insists that Kendrick stay with him and that Suzi stay elsewhere with friends. Jason reflects on Danny’s history, remembering him as a small-time criminal who became far more violent and unpredictable through cocaine use.

Jason thinks about how Danny changed over the years. Kendrick’s birth briefly steadied Danny, but Danny eventually returned to crime and drugs, becoming the sort of man who would never rationally walk away from Suzi and Kendrick. Seeing Suzi’s injuries has hardened Jason’s resolve, and Jason decides Danny must be stopped before Danny hurts them again.

While Kendrick does homework and asks Jason for orange squash, Jason briefly imagines protecting the boy’s ordinary childhood and keeping Ron from being dragged into the trouble. The calm domestic moment is interrupted when Jason’s Ring doorbell shows what appears to be an Amazon delivery driver with a parcel. Jason is cautious and tells the man to leave it outside.

When the supposed driver insists the parcel needs a signature, Jason becomes more suspicious. Instead of leaving, the man reaches into his bag, confirming Jason’s instinct that the delivery is a trap. Jason immediately grabs Kendrick and escapes through the back window just before bullets slam through the front door.

The attack reveals that Danny has already acted and is willing to murder Jason to reach Suzi and Kendrick. What Jason had feared as a looming threat becomes immediate violence, sharply escalating the conflict and the danger to the family.
