Summary
In a flashback set five years earlier, Lucy sits with Savvy at the empty bar of a newly opened restaurant while the staff laughs in the kitchen. Lucy is bruised after another fight with her husband, Matt, and Savvy studies her as Lucy tries to explain what happened.
Lucy says Matt threatened to tell her parents that Lucy pushed him down the stairs if Lucy tried to stay with them. Savvy flatly says Lucy did not do that, but Lucy admits Matt has repeated the accusation so often that she has started to question her own memory and replay competing versions of the event in her head.
Because Matt frames Lucy as the aggressor whenever she fights back, Lucy says the truth no longer matters. Lucy blames herself for losing her temper and thinks that if she had simply taken the abuse quietly, she might have been believed as a victim.
Savvy rejects that logic and responds with hard, focused seriousness. Instead of offering comfort, Savvy proposes an extreme solution: Savvy tells Lucy they should kill Matt.
