In a flashback from five years earlier, Lucy jokes with Savvy about killing Lucy’s husband, Matt, suggesting absurd methods and laughing as if the conversation is only dark humor. Lucy assumes Savvy is joking too, but Savvy’s serious expression makes Lucy realize that Savvy means it.

Savvy argues that Matt deserves to die because she has repeatedly seen bruises on Lucy and knows the abuse is worse than Lucy admits aloud. Lucy tries to defuse the moment with nervous humor about Savvy being an extreme best friend, but Savvy stays committed and directly asks whether they are going to kill Matt, ending the scene with the threat suddenly feeling real.
