After dropping Ben at his hotel, Lucy avoids staying with him and instead drives to Matt’s house. Matt seems to have expected her, welcomes her inside, and offers dinner and drinks. The house is almost exactly as Lucy left it, including the furniture and bar cart, and that familiarity unsettles her as much as it tempts her.

While they sit together, Matt asks what Lucy remembered outside at the wedding venue. Lucy admits that she remembers kissing an unidentified man before Savvy interrupted them and looked angry. Matt suggests the man might have been Colin, admits his own past cheating, and presents himself as newly honest, which lowers Lucy’s guard even as she stays suspicious.

When Matt touches and kisses Lucy, Lucy does not stop him because she wants to recreate the emotional state she had the night Savvy died and force more memories to surface. As Matt talks about Lucy staying with him or starting over together, a memory crashes back: years earlier, Matt found Lucy in the woods covered in blood and holding a large bloody tree branch. In that memory, Lucy muttered that Savvy had tried to do something and that there had been a plan.

Back in the present, Matt insists Lucy did what she had to do and claims he tried to protect her. Matt says he took the bloody branch, hid it in his car, and threw it away so police would not find the weapon, then failed to find Lucy again because of the rain and flooding. Matt also reframes their abusive marriage as mutual fighting that changed Lucy, but Lucy realizes his version does not fit what she knows about their relationship or what she feels about Savvy. Convinced Matt is lying or manipulating her, Lucy pulls away and leaves.
