The next day, Lucy texts Ben from her mother’s office and tells him that Matt finally admitted Nina Garcia was the person he argued with in the driveway after the wedding. Lucy deliberately ignores Matt’s warning to stop helping the podcast and agrees to come to Ben’s hotel later to record the story. When Ben asks whether Nina knows Lucy has learned the truth, Lucy says probably not, and Ben tells her not to confront Nina yet.

At the hotel, Ben records Lucy’s account. Lucy explains that Matt came to her house the previous night, and that she pushed him to identify the person from that night until he said it was Nina. Ben asks why Nina would have been at Matt’s house so late and why Matt would lie about it, and Lucy strongly implies that Nina was there because of an affair. After Lucy recounts the conversation, Ben turns off the microphone, remarks that Nina’s hostility toward him now makes more sense, and the flirtation between Lucy and Ben continues.

Later, Lucy wakes in Ben’s bed at 3:38 a.m. and finds him in the hotel living area, smoking by the open sliding door. Ben tells Lucy that Matt texted her, and Lucy reads a drunken message apologizing and asking to talk. Lucy immediately dismisses it as late-night drunk behavior and says she will not respond. When Ben asks whether she wants to talk about Matt and their marriage, Lucy resists, unwilling to turn that part of her life into podcast material, even though Ben notes that it is probably relevant.

Off the record, Lucy admits that Matt may always have been a jerk, but that he once seemed more tolerable to her. Their conversation shifts from Matt to who Lucy and Ben used to be. Lucy says the younger woman who married Matt was still “Plumpton Lucy,” much closer to her high school self, and she reflects that Savvy had been better at changing into someone new. After a brief intrusion from Savvy’s voice, Lucy and Ben joke about his nerdy prom photo, Lucy’s research into his past, and the online fascination with both of them. The teasing turns intimate again, and Lucy kisses Ben and leads him back to the bedroom.
