After escaping Tom’s apartment, Sydney spends the night terrified that Tom will come after her. She locks and barricades her apartment door, notices that the shades are already drawn, and lies awake for hours unable to sleep.

At 6:30 a.m., Sydney texts Jake and asks to meet in person immediately. When Jake arrives at her apartment, Sydney lets him in while holding a kitchen knife for protection, then shows him the water bottle she secretly took from Tom’s apartment and asks him to have it checked for fingerprints.

Jake refuses to help blindly and insists on hearing the full explanation first. Sydney tells him that the prints would belong to Thomas Brewer, the man she has been dating, and that she now suspects Tom may have killed Bonnie because Sydney found Bonnie’s belongings in Tom’s apartment.

Jake is shocked both because Sydney has been dating a man she thinks is a serial killer and because he knows Thomas Brewer as the medical examiner. When Sydney adds that she barely escaped Tom’s apartment the night before, Jake becomes openly angry and frightened at how close she may have come to being killed.

Jake’s reaction turns intensely personal.
