Sydney immediately realizes she has made a dangerous mistake by trying to steal Tom’s water bottle instead of fleeing as soon as she found suspicious evidence in his apartment. When Tom catches her in the living room and asks what she is doing, Sydney lies that she was only reaching for her phone. Because her phone is still in the bedroom, Sydney understands she cannot call for help and becomes terrified that Tom will realize she suspects him.

Trying to get out safely, Sydney pretends she feels sick and says she got her period, hoping Tom will let her leave without questions. Tom remains calm, offers ibuprofen, and urges Sydney to stay the night, which increases Sydney’s fear that he may not intend to let her go. Sydney also panics over Bonnie’s scrunchie, worrying that if Tom sees it, he will know she found an item connected to a dead woman.

Tom agrees to let Sydney leave and follows her back to the bedroom. There, Sydney spots the black scrunchie on the dark carpet near the nightstand and fears Tom will notice it. While Tom briefly goes into the bathroom, Sydney quickly kicks the scrunchie back under the nightstand to hide any sign that she discovered it.

When Tom returns with pills, Sydney refuses to take them, suspecting him too much to accept anything from him. Tom escorts Sydney to the door, kisses her goodbye, and keeps offering to call her an Uber or walk her downstairs. Sydney rejects every offer because she wants distance from Tom and does not want to remain in his control any longer.

At last, Tom unlocks the door and lets Sydney out of the apartment. Even after the door closes behind her, Sydney expects he might still attack her. Only when she reaches the stairwell does Sydney finally run, escaping Tom’s apartment alive and more convinced than ever that she is in danger.
