Tom arrives at the Dairy Queen parking lot and finds Daisy standing over Slug’s body with a gun. Daisy says Slug attacked her with a knife after confessing that he killed Brandi and Alison and intended to kill Daisy too. Tom is devastated by Slug’s death but initially accepts Daisy’s account, realizing that if the police believe Daisy, Tom could be cleared.

As Daisy urges Tom to stay and support her story for her father, the chief of police, Tom checks his phone and sees a recent text from Slug saying Daisy had asked Slug to meet her at the Dairy Queen so they could stop Daisy from talking. That message, combined with Slug’s earlier remark about Tom handling Daisy “the same way you handled Alison,” makes Tom reconsider everything. Tom starts questioning Daisy’s version of events and realizes Slug may have believed Tom killed Alison.

When Tom presses Daisy about Slug’s car and the timing of Slug’s supposed confession, Daisy grabs Tom’s phone, reads the text, and deletes it. Daisy then drops all pretense. Holding the gun again, Daisy admits she watched Tom dispose of a body years earlier, killed Alison because Alison was going to report Tom and wanted Daisy to break up with him, and killed Brandi out of jealousy because Tom had kissed Brandi.

Daisy also coldly minimizes the torture of her victims and argues that killing Slug was justified because Slug was a voyeur. Tom is horrified as he realizes Daisy is not innocent or sweet but violent and remorseless, and he recognizes in Daisy the same darkness he sees in himself. Daisy then points the gun at Tom and gives him a choice: support her false story so Slug takes the blame for everything, or die and share the blame with Slug.

Daisy tries to secure Tom’s loyalty with promises of love, sex, and a future together, insisting her father will protect them. Tom understands that Chief Driscoll would never believe Daisy is a killer, so exposing Daisy would likely fail and endanger him. Tom decides he will keep Daisy’s secret to save himself and because he still loves her, but he also resolves that their relationship is over and that he must get as far away from Daisy as possible.
