Sydney sees Tom waiting outside her building and briefly considers running, but she stays because Detective Jake Sousa has told her Tom is not a killer. Tom immediately confronts Sydney about telling the police he might be responsible for multiple murders, and Sydney admits she spoke to Jake. Their argument turns to Bonnie, because Sydney believes Tom hid the seriousness of that relationship and lied repeatedly, while Tom insists Bonnie was only casual and says his relationship with Sydney matters more.

When Sydney challenges Tom about contacting her only through a burner phone, Tom cannot defend himself. Tom admits he has commitment issues and says he wants to fix things because he really likes Sydney and does not want the relationship to end. Even though Sydney is still attracted to Tom and knows he has been cleared in the murders, Sydney decides she cannot continue because she no longer trusts him.

Before Sydney can fully end the relationship, Gretchen and Randy arrive and enthusiastically introduce themselves. Tom’s behavior changes the moment he sees Randy: Tom turns pale, stares at him, and looks physically shaken. Tom asks Sydney for a private conversation, but Sydney refuses and tries to go inside. Tom then grabs Sydney’s arm and insists they talk, revealing a more forceful side than Sydney has seen before.

Randy steps between them and tells Tom to leave Sydney alone. After a tense standoff, Tom backs off, and Gretchen and Randy bring Sydney into their apartment so she will not be alone while Tom is still outside. As Randy unlocks the door, Tom sends urgent texts telling Sydney to get out immediately and warning that she is in danger. Sydney, exhausted by what she sees as Tom’s drama, blocks his number before reading anything more.
