Millie returns to 11 Locust to find the house eerily silent and Enzo and the children gone, even though Enzo’s truck is parked outside. She texts and calls Enzo, but he does not answer, and Millie fights rising panic as she searches the first floor for a note or any sign of where they went.

Trying to think logically, Millie assumes Enzo must be nearby on foot and goes to the neighbors at 12 Locust. Suzette answers and confirms Enzo is in her backyard, but insists the children are not with him and implies she does not want Nicolas around because he breaks things. Millie’s relief collapses into fear, and she asks Suzette to get Enzo immediately.

Enzo rushes out, alarmed that Millie “just got home,” and both parents realize each assumed the other was with Ada and Nico. Enzo hurries back to their house to search, with Millie following and Suzette trailing behind. Inside, Enzo calls for Ada and Nico with no response, while Millie considers calling the police despite her distrust of them from her past imprisonment.

Suzette argues against involving the police and even grips Millie’s arm hard, briefly showing what looks like genuine fear. Enzo notices something under the stairwell: the wallpaper is torn in a precise outline of a small door, and the usual houseplant has been shifted to expose it.

Enzo pushes, and the “wall” scrapes open into a hidden door. Millie recognizes the sound as the scraping noise that has been haunting her at night, realizing someone has been opening and closing this concealed entrance inside their home while the family slept.
