Tegan reflects on stabbing Polly, initially unapologetic but then realizing Hank seems to be the real captor and Polly his subordinate. Fearful of Hank’s plan, she steels herself to resist.

She eats the dinner Polly left, avoids the mashed potatoes after detecting a chalky aftertaste, and concludes she has been drugged to keep her subdued. She resolves not to ingest anything suspicious again.

When the basement door opens, Hank comes down instead of Polly to retrieve the plate. Tegan begs him to call an ambulance, but he ignores her and heads back up the stairs. Determined to appear strong, Tegan provokes him by threatening to hurt Polly if she returns.

Hank storms back, throws the plate so it strikes Tegan’s leg, and looms over her. He warns that she will regret touching Polly again and says, “We’ll get you out of here in a couple of days.” Terrified, Tegan loses bladder control as Hank leaves and slams the door, reaffirming his control over her captivity.
