Polly paces her darkened home during a blizzard, lighting candles after the power fails and worrying as Hank stays out late at the auto shop. With snow piling up, she fears he may have crashed—or that Mitch, whom she sees as dangerous, could have confronted him with a weapon.

Hank’s truck finally appears, moving carefully through the drifts. He lingers in the cab before coming inside, where Polly immediately presses him for answers. Hank explains he found a woman on the road—first saying “Megan,” then correcting to “Tegan”—who hit a tree and injured her ankle.

They consider calling for help, but the phones and cell service are down and the power is out. Hank decides Tegan will need to stay the night. He asks for Polly’s help because she’s a nurse and because Tegan seems frightened of him.

Polly bundles up and follows Hank to the truck. Tegan looks very young and badly hurt, with clear ankle pain and a swelling on her forehead. Hank lifts Tegan and carries her to their sofa, setting her down gently.

As Tegan’s coat falls open, Polly notices Tegan is heavily pregnant. A sharp wave of envy hits Polly, but she resolves to set it aside. Accepting that Tegan must shelter with them through the storm, Polly commits to hosting and caring for her despite the difficult feelings.
