Summary
Detective Maxwell, who has been investigating both the crash and Simon Lamar, tells Tegan that a man was paid by Lamar to cut her brake hose the night before the accident. The slow fluid leak explains why her car could not stop. Maxwell adds that Dennis was working with Lamar on ski resort deals and pushed to keep the financing alive by stopping Tegan from going to the police.
Tegan struggles to accept that Dennis, once her whole world, would endanger her. She reflects on Dennis’s long-standing resentment after his career-ending crash and how he may have blamed her. The betrayal leaves her shaken and isolated.
Jackson apologizes for doubting Tegan and admits he contacted another woman Lamar paid off, confirming a pattern of drugging. He explains his interrupted pre-accident call was to say he believed her and was going to the police to back her up. Maxwell reports Lamar is now in custody.
Asked about the syringe, Maxwell says it likely contained morphine, which could be misattributed to a nursing error if lethal. When he mentions the unidentified nurse who intervened, Tegan recalls green eyes behind a mask and realizes it was Polly. Grateful yet conflicted, Tegan recognizes Polly saved her and the baby again, even as past harm remains unresolved.
