Tegan experiences practice contractions and mounting anxiety as the hush agreement with Simon is set to be signed tomorrow. Sleepless and haunted by nightmares of Simon, she delays major decisions until the payout arrives. A call with her brother Dennis underscores her isolation while offering future support and a possible refuge.
Summary
While folding laundry, Tegan has a mild contraction that she recognizes as practice labor, a sign the baby is coming soon. Exhausted from sleepless nights and nightmares ending with Simon’s intense stare, she feels unprepared and fears quitting her job before the contract is signed.
She still hasn’t chosen a name, calling the baby “Little Tuna” for now. Determined to wait for Simon’s check before buying essentials, she promises the baby a crib once the payment arrives.
When her phone rings and stops, Tegan searches her studio and finds a missed call from her brother, Dennis. She returns the call and admits she’s lonely. Dennis asks about the contract, and Tegan confirms the signing is scheduled for tomorrow.
Tegan asks Dennis to visit, but as a busy ski instructor in December, he can’t come now. He offers to visit after the birth or host her at his place, which she considers. She reflects on Dennis’s long-standing role as her protector and his disapproval of her past boyfriends, including Simon.
Left with her thoughts, Tegan’s anxiety about Simon lingers, and she wonders what Dennis would think of Jackson, the attorney arranging tomorrow’s signing.
