After Bella shows Katarina the now-famous photo from Nationals, Katarina is startled by her own image. The blood on her white costume and skates makes her look fragile and innocent, while Heath appears fiercely protective. Once Bella and Garrett leave for a sponsor dinner in Chicago, Katarina stays up late reading every news story and blog post about them, including coverage on Ellis's new blog.

As Katarina falls deeper into the coverage, she recognizes how unusual the attention is for ice dancing and understands why it has happened. The public has embraced the story as a love story, and Katarina realizes that people who once disliked her confidence and ambition now adore her when she appears wounded and in need of rescue. This realization exposes the difference between how the world responded to her strength and how it responds to her vulnerability.

When Katarina finally comes to bed, Heath is still awake and immediately makes space for her. His care has made recovery feel safe and easy, and Katarina briefly considers how simple it would be to stay in that comfort and give up the pain of competitive skating. But when she reaches toward him and traces the old "Shaw & Rocha" carving on the headboard, she admits that she wants to go back. The carving reminds both of them of the future they once imagined together.

Heath assumes Katarina means Garrett and reacts defensively, saying he will not lose her again. Katarina corrects him and says she does not want to return to Garrett; she wants to return to skating with Heath.
