At Worlds in Moscow, Katarina Shaw and Garrett Lin take the ice for the free dance in first place after strong compulsory and original dances. Their main Russian rivals, Yelena Volkova and Nikita Zolotov, appear to have made a mistake, and Bella and Zack have already withdrawn because Zack's worsening knee injury makes a medal impossible. Katarina knows that a clean skate should secure the title and make her and Garrett the team to beat heading into the Olympic season.

Just before the music starts, Katarina sees a man in the stands who looks unmistakably like Heath Rocha, transformed by a shaved haircut and a cold expression. The shock makes her tense and causes a slightly late start, but Garrett quickly covers for it. As the program continues, Katarina relies on trained precision and performance habits to keep going, telling herself she imagined Heath because she has spent years half-expecting and half-fearing his return.

During their most dramatic lift, Katarina sees Heath again, now close to the boards. The sight rattles her so badly that her leg shakes and the lift breaks down. Garrett improvises to prevent a fall, but the recovery is messy and costly, forcing Katarina to worry about deductions while finishing the rest of the program in a daze.

Despite the mistake, Katarina and Garrett still win the world title. Garrett celebrates openly, Sheila Lin is delighted, and media obligations and the medal ceremony follow immediately. Katarina, however, feels detached from the achievement; even on the top step of the podium, she cannot fully absorb the victory and instead fixates on Heath, worrying that Bella will resent her win.

When Katarina spots Heath again beneath the flag during the anthem, she abruptly leaves the podium the moment the ceremony ends and chases him out of the arena in her skates. She loses him in the snowy parking lot, and Garrett and Sheila follow her outside. Garrett tries to help, but Sheila angrily orders Katarina to behave like a world champion, leaving Katarina shaken as she confronts how empty and unstable her greatest triumph feels.
