Overview

Simon Smith (aka Nick/Jonathan/Alistair) arrived at the Bangate pavilion and realized Martha had lured him into a confrontation with victims, family, and observers. The group confronted Simon with his past, his real identity, and the harm he caused, provoking his rage and violence. After assaulting Emma Greenlaw, Simon was restrained by his sons, accused of harming missing women, and saw his schemes collapsing. He broke free, shoved Martha, fled onto the beach, and ran into the sea, disappearing beneath the water.

Summary

Simon Smith entered the pavilion and immediately recognized the ambush: a room of women, children, and acquaintances staring at him with contempt and fear. He realized Martha had deceived him with affection and plans to lure him there. He postured inwardly about being wanted and needed, but outwardly stood silent, observing his sons Sam and Joel, his estranged daughter Lola, and Kadija from the Tooting cafe.

Simon tried to regain control, softly asking Martha what she had done. Martha told him, “It’s over,” signaling the end of his manipulations. A young woman he associated with the Reading case challenged his claim that he only made people happy, describing fear of being stalked. Simon denied responsibility.

Kadija confronted Simon about making her feel unsafe at work. Simon snapped, belittling her “trauma” and others’. Nina then stood and dismantled his invented backstory, naming him as Simon Smith and detailing testimony from his family: he was the indulged only child of Richard and Felicity Smith who exploited his parents for loans, terrified his mother, and was cut out of the will for her safety.

Emma Greenlaw rose to add that multiple people from Lower Dunton corroborated Simon’s history, calling him a psycho, a user, and “a loser.” Enraged, Simon lunged and punched Emma in the face, drawing blood and chaos. Several people restrained him as his composure collapsed.

Pinned to the floor by Sam and Joel, Simon was confronted by Sam demanding to know what he had done to their mother, and by Emma demanding the whereabouts of her mother and another missing woman. Simon insisted he had done nothing. Seeing Jessica Bland present, Simon panicked about exposure for the recent assault and theft, sensing his separate deceptions converging.

Fuelled by rage and fear, Simon overpowered the people holding him, shoved Martha hard into a table, broke free, and fled the pavilion. He ran across the beach into the sea, continuing until the cold water closed over him and his thoughts stilled, leaving his fate unknown in the moment.
