Ash insists on accompanying Nina to a rainy meeting with Nick at Bangate Cove. Nick reveals he wants Nina to consider buying a dilapidated seafront pavilion and huts to create a new Paddy’s venue and boutique accommodations. Nina is briefly tempted by his vision but ultimately rejects the idea due to risk and finances. Ash feels relieved when Nina firmly distances herself from investing and implicitly positions Nick as an outsider.
Summary
On a rainy Saturday, Nina prepares to meet Nick at Bangate Cove. Ash, anxious about Nick’s intentions, insists on coming along, motivated by growing distrust rooted in earlier suspicious signs. Nina relents, and they drive to the cove.
They meet Nick, who arrives in a performance car, and he warmly greets Nina while remaining politely distant with Ash. He leads them to a shabby, abandoned pavilion and weather-beaten beach huts on the empty, gray shoreline.
Nick unveils his plan: purchase the pavilion and huts to create a fourth Paddy’s location, with outdoor seating, seasonal pop-ups, and converting the huts into boutique accommodations under the Paddy’s brand. He paints an enticing picture of regeneration, claiming possible council support and connections to expedite planning permission.
Nina acknowledges the concept’s surface appeal but questions the location’s draw and planning feasibility. Nick argues the brand could transform the area and estimates a purchase price of £200k for the pavilion and £150k for the huts, suggesting renovation costs and leveraging assets as Paddy would have done.
Ash is disturbed by Nick’s urgency and his use of “we” regarding Nina’s finances, silently signaling concern to Nina. After the meeting, back in the car, Ash asks if Nina will proceed.
Nina decisively refuses, citing current financial strain and the risk of additional debt, saying the newer branch is close to needing to shut down. She adds that Nick can buy it himself if he wants, which reassures Ash and underscores Nick’s outsider status to their family and business.
