Renarin and a Thaylen Shardbearer fell a thunderclast; Bridge Four arrives with Teft newly Radiant. Rock kills Amaram after Kaladin cracks his gemheart, and the Fused retreat as the storm fades.
Meanwhile, Venli secretly embraces Timbre and begins the Radiant path.
Summary
Kaladin rejoins the battle, engaging Amaram, who has just swallowed a gemstone and manifests Yelig-nar’s powers—crystal growths, Lashings, and liquefying stone—while Jasnah arrives to Soulcast a bronze-like wall patch and rout assaults with effortless transformations. Shallan conjures hundreds of weighted illusions, anchoring the chaos, as Adolin rallies Thaylen defenders inside the city.
Szeth and Lift pursue the stolen King’s Drop through the parshman fleet. Using a decoy and Szeth’s aerial feints, they reclaim the real ruby; Szeth balks at entering the Thrill’s mist, so Lift takes it to Dalinar. Elsewhere, Adolin harasses a thunderclast until Renarin arrives, heals him, and—with Thaylen Shardbearer Hrdalm—severs the monster’s legs before Renarin stills it with light.
Renarin climbs toward the Oathgate, where twelve Fused bar entry. As he steels himself, the platform erupts with light: Kholin troops arrive from Urithiru, led by Teft—now a Radiant—while Bridge Four takes the aerial fight and Renarin stabilizes the gate area. Within the city, Jasnah rescues an exhausted Shallan and guides a retreat to the wall.
Near the mist, Kaladin splits focus: holding off numerous Fused while dueling Amaram. He exploits aerial control to crack the amethyst at Amaram’s heart, but reinforcements swarm him. In the depths of the red fog, Dalinar embraces and understands the Thrill, then uses the King’s Drop to imprison Nergaoul. The red eyes in Amaram’s soldiers gutter out; the Everstorm’s shadow slackens and the Fused begin to pull back.
Amaram rises once more, gemheart flickering, to execute Kaladin—until Rock, newly arrived via the Oathgate, looses arrows through Amaram’s skull and gemheart, killing him. Across the field, the enemy coheres in retreat as the storm wanes. Venli, apart from the melee, accepts Timbre within her gemheart, speaks the Radiant Ideals, and resolves to change. Dalinar kneels, weeping with the captured Unmade, and declares the struggle over—for now.
