In the Frostlands, Moash travels with Graves, Febrth, and Fia, arguing over direction and survival as they cross a barren, wintry landscape. Graves urges Moash to remove his Bridge Four patch. Moash cuts it free but cannot discard it, haunted by memories of Bridge Four and his betrayal of Kaladin.

Without warning, four flying Voidbringers descend on the camp. They instantly kill Graves—claiming his Shardblade—and cut down Febrth and Fia. One engages Moash. He summons his Shardblade, but its unwieldiness without Plate leaves him overmatched against the graceful, darklight-wreathed foe.

When a spear tumbles from the wagon, Moash abandons his Blade and returns to familiar spearwork drilled by Kaladin in the chasms. Using practiced footwork and a grapple as the enemy tries to Lash him, he drags the Fused into close quarters and kills her with a knife to the chest, her dark light vanishing as orange blood steams in the cold.

The remaining Fused assess him. Their leader—a white-and-red-skinned woman—speaks Alethi, notes his “passion,” and offers death or surrender. Realizing he cannot defeat three, Moash tosses aside his spear, breaks his Shardblade bond, and yields. The Fused secure the Shardplate with ropes, claim both Blades, and two of them lift Moash into the air, taking him captive.
