Summary
Confronted by Odium, Dalinar refuses to surrender his pain and openly accepts responsibility for Rathalas and his wife’s death. Hearing the call to “Unite them,” he affirms “Journey before destination,” and his Words are accepted. Drawing on mind and spirit, he declares, “I am Unity,” and slams the realms together, creating Honor’s Perpendicularity.
The eruption of light blasts the Fused away. In Shadesmar, beads fuse into a glass road and a radiant pillar forms. Syl identifies Honor’s Perpendicularity—a conduit across realms—and Kaladin, aided by Shallan and Adolin, now has a path home.
Elsewhere, Taln and Ash reunite; Taln calls their long abandonment a gift to humankind. In darkness, Teft speaks the Third Ideal, vowing to protect even those he hates, including himself. In the city, Jasnah demolishes Odium’s soldiers with Soulcasting while Renarin, surging with power, chases the rising light.
Navani and Fen witness gloryspren and gems across the field refilling. Odium reels and orders Dalinar’s death. Amaram attacks with Oathbringer, but figures of light resolve into allies—Kaladin, Shallan, and Adolin—deflecting him. Lift uses the flood of Stormlight to halt Nightblood’s drain on Szeth; Szeth regains his sheath and heads for Dalinar.
As the Perpendicularity ebbs, Dalinar draws Stormlight from newly charged gems. Jasnah arrives; Renarin heals Adolin. Szeth and Lift join, and two ancient figures—Taln and Ash—appear, whom the Stormfather calls divinities. Counting seven Radiants, Dalinar issues orders: Renarin to secure the Oathgate, Shallan to Lightweave an army, Jasnah to hold the breach, Kaladin to guard him against Amaram, and Lift with Szeth to retrieve the King’s Drop. Dalinar strides toward the water to take away the enemy’s greatest advantage—the Thrill.
