Daddo stands at the bedroom window, shaken after learning that Bela felt Other Mommy nearby and frustrated that Bela did not tell him sooner. He tries calling Mommy, but she does not answer. Looking outside at Grandma Ruth facing the Loblolly Pines, Daddo questions Bela about where she sensed the presence, and Bela says it was behind a tree.

Because he believes there may be an intruder in the woods, Daddo calls the police. When the dispatcher asks for a description, Bela offers the unsettling detail that the figure had dark hair on the backs of her arms. While Daddo steps into the hall to continue the call, Bela watches Grandma Ruth outside and feels how small and vulnerable she looks among the trees.

Then Grandma Ruth's closet opens behind Bela, and Bela screams for it to go away. The movement turns out to be only Milky sniffing inside the closet, but the scare confirms how tense everyone has become. Daddo rushes Bela out of the room, and Grandma Ruth comes back inside as Milky continues barking in the bedroom.

Although Daddo warns her not to enter, Grandma Ruth refuses to let anything take over her house and goes into the bedroom herself. Daddo hesitates because he does not want to leave Bela alone, so he waits anxiously outside while Grandma Ruth checks the room. The barking stops, which only heightens the suspense.

Grandma Ruth finally emerges holding Milky and reports that she found nothing. Daddo asks whether the room smelled bad, revealing that he is now thinking in terms of a supernatural threat rather than a normal break-in. Grandma Ruth cuts off his mention of the police and urges Russ to contact someone who understands these matters better, arguing that even if such help seems crazy or pointless, this situation is too dangerous not to try every possible protection.
