Late at night, Ursula stays awake with Bela while Russ sleeps and Brian dozes at the dining-room table. Ursula searches Russ's computer for supernatural help, including exorcisms and demons, but finds nothing useful. As she talks to Bela, Ursula reflects on Russ's lifelong optimism and on the difference between Russ's open nature and her own hidden inner darkness, suggesting that Other Mommy has exposed old tensions in their marriage as well as their fear.

The guard dogs suddenly fix their attention on the dining room. Ursula and Bela approach quietly and find Brian already standing and staring at Other Mommy, who is kneeling unnaturally in the room. Brian silences them and moves closer despite their fear. Russ wakes and joins them, but Brian seems entranced rather than cautious.

As Brian approaches, Other Mommy's face distorts and her mouth stretches down toward the floor. Bela and Russ warn Brian to get away, but Brian keeps reaching forward, smiling with excitement. Other Mommy releases a deafening scream that becomes a violent force, filling the dining room with wind and pinning Bela, Ursula, and Russ in place. Brian still reaches out and touches Other Mommy, and only then does the force abruptly stop and the entity vanish.

Once the danger passes, Brian immediately gathers his equipment instead of helping the family. He admits that seeing a real entity was all he ever wanted and makes clear that proof mattered more to him than protecting them. Outside, Ursula and Russ realize Brian used them; Russ tries to stop him, Brian punches Russ in the face, and then Brian drives away smiling. Shaken, furious, and abandoned, Ursula and Russ refuse a neighbor's suggestion to call the police and decide together that they must get rid of Other Mommy themselves.
