When Daddo asks how Bela feels, Bela says she is okay, but the question overwhelms her and she begins to cry.

Daddo tries to calm Bela by lifting her onto his lap and framing the incident as an ordinary playground accident. To reassure her, Daddo tells Bela about a childhood injury in which Uncle Klay caused him to fall from the parallel bars and break a rib, explaining that his own mother was terrified then just as Mommy is now.
