Ethan meets Faith at the Opera Bar. She is Lila and Harvey's cousin, a computer game designer who also runs a pet-sitting business. Faith's sister was the cousin Ethan shared mini vol-au-vents with at Harvey's funeral; Faith herself missed the funeral because she was overseas with a delayed flight. Lila begins laughing with Harvey's identical silent wheezy laugh, and Ethan finds it beautiful that Harvey's distinctive laugh lives on through his sister and might continue through her children. Faith notes that Lila, Harvey, and their Uncle Tom all share the same laugh. Her voice cracks as she corrects herself from present to past tense, and Ethan feels the emotion too. A passing woman in stilettos mistakes Lila's laughter for choking and rushes to help. Ethan tries to explain Lila is just laughing but accidentally says "choking," causing all three of them to dissolve into a mix of laughter and tears. The woman's friend pulls her away, dismissing the group as drunk. As they recover, Faith asks Ethan if he knows the angry-looking man staring at them from nearby.
