With their allies gone to answer an emergency raid, Carl, Donut, Mordecai, and Mongo watch the dungeon recap of Donut's fight with Lucia Mar. The footage shows Lucia entering the village in her skeletal form, tearing apart the mayor, letting her rottweilers menace NPCs, and methodically visiting pubs and saferooms to plant teleport traps. She hides map dots with a protection spell and waits in a raised treehouse pub overlooking the entrances, clearly planning an ambush for Carl and Donut.

The recap then shows Carl and Donut arriving just before Carl is pulled away to CrawlCon. Lucia's Loop-de-Loop trap switches Donut into the town square between the two dogs while Lucia appears near the saferoom, but Donut dodges the attack, claws Cici, and throws up a Wall of Fire. Lucia immediately scatters dispel potions because she assumes Carl turned invisible, while Donut races up toward the treehouse pub. Lucia grabs Samantha by the hair and hurls the head into Donut, knocking her aside as Lucia prepares a second trap near the door.

Samantha reaches the entrance first, triggers Lucia's next trap, and is caught outside while Gustavo mauls her. Lucia then teleports into Donut's path, and the two crash into the treehouse pub, which is not a true saferoom. Donut lunges for the guildhall door but hits a snare that roots her in place, so she blasts Lucia with Magic Missile and Fireball instead, badly injuring her and setting the pub ablaze. As the fire spreads, Lucia starts speaking erratically to an unseen presence Donut says she identified as Alexandro, calls Carl a coward, rambles about dead friends from an earlier floor, points, a bridge, and getting back home to her father, and bizarrely demands milk while treating the fight like it should end in a draw.

Cici enters the burning pub while Donut still has seconds left on the snare, and Carl realizes Donut has been quietly singing to cast a bard spell. Donut creates multiple images with Entourage, overlays one on herself, drinks an invisibility potion, and casts Hole beneath her own feet. Cici lunges at the false Donut, misses, and ends up peering down through the opening after the now-invisible Donut drops safely outside. Donut then cancels the spell, severing Cici's head, loots it, and slips back into the saferoom while Gustavo keeps chewing on Samantha. The recap ends with Lucia grieving over the wrong dog's death, shifting into her beautiful form, and deciding that everyone must die.

After the show, Carl and Mordecai discuss Lucia's unstable behavior, the murdered bartender marked with the word milk, and Lucia's references to Alexandro and a youth assistant; Mordecai says youth assistants are outsiders who care for underage children and should not be inside the dungeon at all. The daily announcement reports about 66,000 crawlers left, says hunters are being killed or hiding in Zockau, reveals the seventh floor has been redesigned, and declares that the top 50 must attend the Butcher's Masquerade with an optional plus-one. The chapter ends on a new threat when an exhausted Bomo arrives with a frightened male mantis who urgently tells Carl that a woman is coming for him.
