Chapter 50
Overview
Back in a saferoom, Carl's group turns Miriam's posthumous quest into an organized campaign against the Odious Creepers. Mordecai brews stronger herbicide, Louis can disperse it from the Twister, and Carl devises a riskier long-range aerosol attack of his own. With Prepotente already credited for three kills and Eva's team fighting more Creepers, the hunt is accelerating, but the monsters' ability to weaponize surrounding vegetation makes every attempt dangerous.
Summary
After returning to the nearest saferoom, Carl and the others regroup while Donut finishes telling Mordecai what happened. The discussion briefly centers on Mongo swallowing Miriam's ring, with Mordecai guessing the ring will simply pass through him. At the same time, Mongo, Kiwi, and their clockwork counterparts cause chaos in the adjoining pub, forcing Donut to keep shouting instructions through the open door. A system message then confirms that Prepotente has already killed his third Odious Creeper, showing that the new quest is underway across the floor.
Katia and Louis arrive from the guildhall entrance. Katia, now level 54 and still bloodied from fighting, reports that Gwen's group and Eva's crew have two Creepers cornered in a large bush elf village, though she fears most of the settlement is already doomed. Katia also reveals that Li Jun had secretly been a vampire and that only his sister and Zhang knew; Miriam's sunrise death cured him along with the others. While Louis gets distracted by Mongo and Kiwi, Katia stays focused on preparing a response.
Mordecai shows the group four large jugs of enhanced weedkiller, which he has upgraded with anti-undead effects based on the herbicide tool Prepotente looted earlier. Mordecai warns that the mixture is highly flammable, so Louis must use his Extermination Professional ability, Tent the House, from maximum range if he deploys it from the Twister. Carl explains that he has also improvised a second delivery method by modifying hobgoblin smoke curtains into oversized aerial sprayers powered by magical charges. The system no longer treats the devices as explosives, which means Carl cannot rely on his enhanced throwing ability, and each attack will require twelve smoke curtains split across three large bombs.
Mordecai stresses that everyone must stay at least half a kilometer away because Odious Creepers can animate nearby foliage and kill attackers from a distance; crawler chat already reports three victims crushed by vines and absorbed into one monster. Samantha offers to help as a delivery platform, but Carl refuses for now because the equipment is too large. Another system message credits Eva with killing a Creeper, confirming that other teams are making progress. Katia and Louis leave with the remaining jugs to act quickly, Donut runs back into the pub to stop more dinosaur destruction, and one more Creeper dies elsewhere as Carl follows her out.
