Carl faces a semicircle of twenty bloodied female velociraptors at the tree line, with more hidden nearby. He realizes the uninfected pack has likely tracked the source of the vampire outbreak and may have come because of Tina or Prepotente. Because Donut has only one Charm Mongoliensis potion and it works on the nearest eligible target, Carl concludes that charming Kiwi, Tina's mother and the pack leader, is the intended shortcut for bringing the raptors into the larger quest.

Donut approaches Kiwi alone while Carl prepares to trigger Protective Shell if the raptors attack. The potion works: Kiwi becomes Donut's minion, her map marker turns white with a green minion icon, and the rest of the raptor pack also turns non-hostile. Carl learns there are thirty-six velociraptors in total, some carrying an Immortalized debuff from being cured of vampirism, which weakens them in sunlight and strengthens them in moonlight. Donut immediately starts laying down rules for the new alliance, especially that Kiwi must not harm Carl or take advantage of Mongo again.

When Donut brings Mongo out of his carrier, the reunion turns chaotic. Kiwi and Mongo snap at each other, the other female raptors crowd him, and one of them openly presents herself to Mongo. Kiwi drives the rival away, showing that Donut's control over Kiwi does not mean the whole pack is obedient, only that Kiwi now leads them on Donut's side. While Carl and Donut deal with the unruly dinosaurs, Prepotente rises from Miriam's ashes, having gathered her loot.

Prepotente uses a wand to create a tiny temporary safe space and opens his boxes inside it. From his legendary benefactor box, he receives a magical spray applicator and a recipe for a herbicide made with fine healing potions, blessed water, and weedkiller; the mixture must be applied as a fine mist. He asks Carl for five fine healing potions as payment for the Size Up potions Carl once stole from Miriam, and Carl hands them over while privately noting that his own bomb cookbook may offer another way to aerosolize the chemical.

Prepotente then reveals his resolve. He summons Bianca, now larger, winged, saddled, and wreathed in black fire, mounts her, and declares that if he cannot live in a world with his mother, then everyone remotely responsible for Miriam's death must die. Armed with enough herbicide applications to kill twenty Odious Creepers, he flies off to hunt them and level up. After he leaves, Carl confirms Donut's suspicion that the Plenty likely wanted Miriam to die, and the two head back toward the saferoom with Kiwi and the raptor pack, convinced that Kiwi's arrival and the surrounding quest are more important than they first understood.
