Donut argues with Carl about replacing her old butterfly collar charm, but Carl explains that magical item slots are limited and that her new settlement charm is far more useful. The charm confirms Donut's ownership of the newly renamed Point Mongo, grants strong stat bonuses, and gives her the Snitch skill to summon guards. Mordecai says Donut must wear it to command the town properly, and Carl pushes her to reset the guards and the town's rules before the hunters arrive.

While they are preparing defenses, Carl receives notice that one of his old traps has already killed a hunter named JayGee, proving the hunters are moving toward them quickly. Carl opens the reward boxes, gains gold, a severed hunter hand as a trophy, and a pack of trap fail-safe add-ons, then openly taunts the dead hunter's family and allies despite Mordecai's warning. Carl also warns Donut to remove the bugbear washing rule because it was effectively a death trap that would drag bugbears into the river.

Outside, Carl starts handing anti-hunter missile launchers to Point Mongo's funeral bell guards while exchanging messages with Katia about forming a guild and managing her difficult group. Nearby, an elderly ursine cleric named Tam insists the town needs anti-naiad and anti-dinosaur restrictions to stay safe. During the argument, Mordecai accidentally triggers a new quest, The Recital, about the growing dinosaur attacks on Point Mongo; the quest offers a gold box and a free town upgrade if Carl and Donut either destroy the threat or learn what the dinosaurs want. Donut refuses to restore a racist no-dinosaur policy, but before the discussion can continue, Mongo suddenly bolts through town with Donut still riding him.

Carl chases after Mongo, first assuming some outside force has enchanted him again. Mongo runs out of the southern gate and into the jungle, where Carl catches up and finds Donut and Mongo trapped in a clearing surrounded by roughly forty mongoliensis velociraptors. Carl prepares an escape plan using Donut's Snitch skill, invisibility potions, smoke, and Puddle Jump, and he identifies the pack leader as Kiwi, a level 60 female raptor. The system reveals that dinosaur-class monsters only appeared in the area after Scolopendra's nine-tier attack and that all the local dinosaurs seem to be female, which makes the new quest feel even more significant.

Before Carl and Donut can retreat, Kiwi uses a paralysis effect on Carl, and Mongo answers her call. Carl expects a deadly attack, but the tense standoff turns into a mating ritual when Mongo and Kiwi leap together and begin having sex while the rest of the pack withdraws and howls around them. Realizing the pack is focused on Kiwi and Mongo rather than on killing them, Carl drags Donut back toward town so Mongo will not be forced to defend them if Kiwi turns hostile afterward. Donut is furious, embarrassed, and protective of Mongo, and she resolves to put him back in his cage and restore the no-dinosaur rule once he returns.
