Juliette wakes on the floor in Solo's room, physically wrecked from the dive and recent work, and quickly orients herself to the time. As her thoughts return, she fixates on Lukas and the danger in Silo 18: Bernard is likely preparing a doomed cleaning, and Juliette believes there is only a short window left to intervene. Despite exhaustion, she refuses to rest and has Solo take her to the Suit Lab.

On the way, Juliette instructs Solo to gather the good heat tape from Supply, not the inferior kind, because she needs to build a suit that will actually hold. The sounds of the children moving through Silo 17 remind her that normal life is beginning to return there, but she stays focused on her immediate goal. In the lab, Solo prepares sheets of tape while Juliette selects a smaller suit and begins replacing or reinforcing the deliberately faulty components she has previously identified.

As Juliette works, Solo asks how long she will be gone, and Juliette admits only that she must try to save someone. She explains that saving Lukas matters on its own, but that her larger hope is political as well: if the people of Silo 18 see that a cleaner can come back alive, fearful bystanders may finally turn against Bernard and the system that controls them. Solo understands enough to help without being told, and Juliette is encouraged by how much steadier and more capable he seems now that he is no longer alone with only his fears.

After hours of hauling gear up toward the top levels, with the children helping until Juliette sends them back for safety, Solo assists her into the repaired suit. Juliette tells him she has to try, because she could not live with herself if she let Lukas die without acting. When she thanks him and says goodbye, Solo's emotion breaks through. Just before she leaves, he tells her he thinks he is going back to being called Jimmy, because with the children there he will not be alone anymore.
