Juliette emerges from the flooded depths trapped in her waterlogged suit and on the edge of hypothermia. While cutting herself free, she sees that Solo is motionless, his wrench is gone, their supply bag has been stolen, and the compressor has been knocked over with its fuel leaking. Believing Solo may be dead and knowing she will die if she stops moving, Juliette focuses first on getting out of the suit and finding a way to warm herself.

Because her hands are too numb to manage the fuel cap normally, Juliette uses her knife to open it and pours gasoline over the compressor. She strikes the knife against the machine until a spark catches, then feeds the fire until the burning wheels and motor give off enough heat to keep her alive. Juliette strips off her soaked layers and huddles beside the flames, painfully regaining feeling in her body while fearing that the unknown people in the silo could come down the stairs at any moment.

When the fire begins to die, Juliette puts on one damp undersuit and goes back to Solo. This time she feels a faint pulse in his neck and realizes he is still alive. With their bag missing, she uses her soaked undersuit as a poor substitute for water, dripping moisture on his lips and into the wound on his head. The sting jolts Solo awake, and Juliette steadies him as he screams, blinks back to awareness, and lets her clean the cut.

As Solo recovers enough to speak, Juliette tells him she thinks he was attacked and asks what he remembers. Solo says there was only one attacker, someone his own age, which confirms that another survivor in Silo 17 is real and nearby. Juliette urges that they get to the warmer upper levels, and Solo insists that he is not crazy and that the strange movements and lights were not his imagination. Juliette reassures him that she believes him, strengthening their trust as the danger in the silo becomes clearer.
